The Art of Negotiation program aims to introduce the fundamentals of communication dynamics in negotiations for design professionals. Participants will learn about how to make decisions together with their teammates, partners, or clients to explore win-win solutions in their daily lives. 

This program is prepared for design professionals with an international growth mindset. Participants are actively involved in hands-on workshops to develop their international negotiation skills with their peers. They’ll learn how to approach difficult problems they encounter in their everyday business lives such as,

  • Negotiating salary during the job interview,
  • Assigning the tasks and deadlines during a project planning session,
  • Building an international partnership with a foreign company,
  • Deciding the scope of a new UX project with the client.

With role-play activities based on real-life examples, participants will have a chance to explore and expand the boundaries of their negotiation skills without any high-stake risks. Carefully designed exercises will prepare them for real-life cases and potential conflicts.

The program provides various negotiation techniques and strategies for professionals to help them build up fruitful business relationships both in short and long-term interactions.

Semih Ersöz

CEO of Sopu Academy

Semih Ersöz is the CEO of Sopu Academy and the main instructor of this program. He has an MSc. degree from Aalto University School of Business, one of the leading business schools in Northern Europe.  He also holds a BSc in Management Engineering from Istanbul Technical University. Previously, he has worked in Aalto University as the coordinator of business & entrepreneurship programs for youth. During his career, he has been involved in several international projects in Turkey, Finland, Uganda and the United States. He has been designing and running workshops about negotiation skills for several years. He is currently based in Helsinki, Finland.

Lottaliina Pokkinen is a violinist and copyright lawyer (LL.Lic.) from Finland. For more than twenty years, she has helped featured artists, authors, designers and other creative professionals in their contract negotiations. She has also written books about music business contracts and negotiating skills, and feels passionate about developing the negotiating culture. She has studied negotiating at Harvard Law School.
